It's a fun little tour and you will find it more interesting and entertaining then you think you would. After the tour you are free to eat at one of the many places in town. Contact Larry if you'd like to join the tour, his email is: TriggerToy@aol.com
Wednesday: Caravan to the Historic Surf Ballroom - Free
On January 27, 2009, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum (Cleveland, Ohio) dedicated the Surf Ballroom as a historic rock and roll landmark as part of the Museum's ongoing Landmark Series, which identifies locations in America that are significant to the origins and development of rock and roll.
The plaque reads: "There are few buildings in existence today that represent a complete shift in our musical history. As the last concert venue for Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, the Surf is the bedrock of where the sound and attitude of rock and roll changed forever."
Contact Narley if you would like to join the tour and get more info: firstname.lastname@example.org
Line up starts at 11:00am at front gate. Drivers meeting at 11:20am. Caravan to Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake leaves at 11:30am, from front gate. Arrive at Surf at approximately 12:15-12:30 pm. Park in parking lot, go in for a self guided tour of the facility.
I/we will give out one Clear Lake visitors bag from the Chamber of Commerce, to each driver. It has several local interests flyers, along with a magazine, which has a two page spread on the Surf Ballroom and crash site in it.
Everyone will return on their own to Albert Lea.
Police may conduct traffic control as we arrive, they are contemplating that as I type. Haven't heard back yet. They may decide this group isn't big enough to bother with. The Clear Lake Police have been notified of our caravan, they will probably notify the Sheriff also.
